Earlier this fall, while traveling to Alexandria, VA, for business, I
was fortunate enough to have had the time to take a short train trip
into Washington, D.C.
And with the entire National Mall under
construction, and the rush of summer tourists gone, I had the entire
National Gallery of Art, almost completely to myself, as I wondered
through gallery after gallery--with not a single other person in sight.
In theory, the National Gallery of Art belongs to every U.S. citizen,
though in practice, the crush of tourists often detracts from "our"
individual sense of ownership. But not on the day I was there...it was
all mine!
